EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY CELL

The ET cell has been established as a project sponsored by the MoE, Govt. of India with an objective to increase the effectiveness of teaching-learning process with the help of modern audio-visual equipment and Information and Communication Technology(ICT). Presently, the cell mainly manages and maintain the Internet Connectivity to the Institute, Local Area Network(LAN), Wi-Fi LAN, and Server Firm, and different Services. The Cell consists of processing laboratory, seminar room, and board room that are well equipped with the state of art audio-visual equipment. These are used for Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and special lectures by faculty members and professionals from institutions and industries.

  1. Managing/maintaining the 1Gbps Internet Connectivity to the Institute provided by NKN ISP(Internet Service Provider).
  2. Managing/maintaining the 200Mbps Internet Connectivity to the Institute provided by PGCIL ISP(Internet Service Provider)
  3. Analyzing the requirement of Institute's IT Infrastructure and provides solutions for the same.
  4. Provides LAN Connectivity to all the 12 Academic Departments/Centers, 10 Hostels, Offices, and the Schools in the campus.
  5. Wifi LAN Connectivity to Hostels and Residential Areas.
  6. E-mail Services to all Students, Research Scholars, Faculties and Staff.
  7. Locally Hosting and maintaining the Institute Web Servers.
  8. Management and Maintenance of Online Teaching Learning Platforms, arranging video conference, providing support to faculties and students.
  9. ET Cell also houses a number of high-end Servers which facilitates number of Services as: Hyper-V Virtual Platform, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, RADIOUS, Microsoft SCCM, etc.
  10. Provides technical supports during online Admission cum Counselling for NEE/PG/Ph.D programs.
  11. Provides technical supports to Store and Purchase Section for procurement process through GeM.
  12. Provides technical supports to conduct different computerized recruitment process for different govt. organizations using the Institute infrastructures.
  1. Established LAN/WiFi Connectivity to all newly re-innovated faculty chamber of Mechanical Engineering Department.
  2. Established underground OFC connectivity from E.T. Cell to New VIP Guest House, Gymkhana, Hostel E-Block and PG-Block using HDD digging.
  3. Deployed WiFi Access Points at New VIP Guest House, Gymkhana to provide WiFi connectivity.
  4. Deployed WiFi Access Points at NERIST K.V. School which facilitates fully WiFi enabled School.
  5. Upgraded the WiFi Access Points(APs) of SUBANSIRI Girls Hostel deploying controller based APs.
  6. Deployed the new Library Automation(lib.nerist.ac.in) Servers on DMZ Zone which is accessible internally from intranet.
  7. Renewed the Office 365 Cloud License Solution for the year of 2022-23.
  8. Renewed the 200 Mbps ISP link from PGCIL, which facilitates backup of primary NKN ISP Link.
  9. Proposal submitted for Augmentation and Expansion of Institute Campus LAN, which is required for south campus. 
  10. Provided technical support for conducting different LAN based computerized exams (Like CUET, FCAT, etc.).
  11. Provided IT infrastructure supports during online Registration, Counselling, and Admission process for NEE-2022-23/NEPGET-2022-2023 session.
  1. Deployed SSL Certificates for Institute Website, ERP/Library Portal which facilitates security, prevention of data leakage and other cyber threads.
  2. Deployed the ERP Servers from Server zone to DMZ Zone for better accessibility and security.
  3. Renewed the Office 365 Cloud License Solution for the year of 2021-22.
  4. Renewed the 200 Mbps ISP link from PGCIL, which facilitates backup of primary NKN ISP Link.
  5. Proposal submitted for Augmentation and Expansion of Institute Campus LAN, which is required for south campus. 
  6. Provided technical support for conducting different LAN based computerized exams (Like CUET, FCAT, etc.).
  7. Provided IT infrastructure supports during online Registration, Counselling, and Admission process for NEE-2021-22/NEPGET-2021-2022 session.
  1. Upgraded the Microsoft Campus Agreement License to Office 365 Cloud License Solution.
  2. Developed Online Teaching Learning tools in collaboration with Microsoft.
  3. Upgraded Internet Gateway Firewall from Cyberoam 2500iNG to Sophos XG 550.
  4. Upgraded Institute e-Mail System to enterprise level cloud base e-Mail system, which is more secure and reliable.
  5. Upgraded the ISP link from PGCIL from 100 Mbps to 200 Mbps, which facilitates backup of primary NKN ISP Link.
  6. Established an underground OFC Links between E.T. Cell , PG-GH Hostel, and newly constructed Quarters to provide efficient and  reliable Internet and connectivity to the hostellers and Residential Campus .
  7. ET Cell also deployed high end WiFi Access Points to Hostel  BLOK-B, BLOCK-C, and BLOCK-D, and BLOCK-UG-GH which provides reliable and secure Internet services to the hostels.
  8. Developed/Deployed WiF/LAN for Smart Class Building.
  9. Provided support to conducted different Video conference, Online Campus Interviews for students during 2020-2021 session.
  1. Renewed the Microsoft Campus Agreement Licences for 300 FTE users for One Year.
  2. Renewed the 100 Mbps ISP link from PGCIL, which facilitates backup of primary NKN ISP Link.
  3. Established an underground OFC Link to BRAHMAPUTRA Hostel to provide Internet connectivity to the hostellers.
  4. ET Cell also deployed high end WiFi Access Points to Hostel BRAJMAPUTRA, BLOK-A, BLOCK-E, and BLOCK-E, which provides reliable and secure Internet services to the hostels.
  5. Developed/Deployed WiF/LAN for newly constructed Central Library.
  6. Provided support to conducted different Online Campus Interviews for students during 2018-2019 session.
  7. Provided supports to conducted different computerized recruitment process for different govt. organizations using infrastructure of ACCF.
  8. Provided IT infrastructure supports during online Registration, Counselling, and Admission process for NEE-2018-19/PG/Ph.D of 2018-19 session.
  1. Renewed the Licence of Wi-Fi System of NERIST Campus for next three years.
  2. Number of Wi-Fi APs of UG Girls Hostel increased from 6 to 24 numbers and deployed the same for better coverage of Wi-Fi signal.
  3. Renewed the Microsoft Campus Agreement Licences for 300 FTE users for One Year
  4. Upgraded the Mail Server “Zimbra Server ZCS 8.6.0” to “Zimbra Server ZCS 8.7.1” and migrated to a high capacity Virtual Machine of Windows Hyper-V node.
  5. Developed the new official Website of NERIST which was launched by Director(I/c), NERIST, on 23rd August, 2016. Along with Website a full featured CMS(Content Management System) also developed to ease the website content management process.
  6. Established a 100 Mbps ISP link from RailTel, which facilitates backup of primary NKN ISP Link.
  7. Successfully conducted Online Counselling and Admission process of NEE 2017.
  8. Deployed 50 Nos of Desktop PCs at ACCF for conducting online Interviews/Exams
  1. Wi-Fi LAN of Residential areas are upgraded with high end devices. Wifi Controller upgraded from ZD 1000 to ZD 3000(with redundancy) and 30 Access Points are deployed to cover the Residential areas.
  2. Active Directory Server deployed with redundancy for Centrally management of Internet/Intranet Users. Active Directory also facilitates single Sign on for multiple systems.
  3. User base Internet Access integrated which facilitates only authorized user of NERIST campus LAN can access Internet
  4. Radius Server deployed which facilitates only authorized user can connect to Wi-Fi.
