The Department of Mechanical Engineering consists of 20 highly qualified faculty including 3 Guest Lecturers, 24 well experienced and qualified staff and 160 students (from 7 North Eastern states and all India). The department has an envisaged manpower of 32 faculty (5 Professors, 10 Assistant professors and 17 Lecturers). It offers courses to train the students in the art of servicing, maintenance and trouble shooting aspects in certificate Level; to impart supervisory skills to the diploma module students and to provide analytical skills in various subjects related to Mechanical Engineering to the degree module students. The course curriculum for the degree module is at par the premier institutions of the country. Moreover, the laboratories (12 Nos) and the workshops (06 Nos) are fully equipped with advanced equipments and machines. The Department has well-qualified (Ph.Ds and Post graduates from reputed institutes like IITs, ISM, NITs, J.U, etc), experienced as well as young motivated faculty members and supporting staffs to train the manpower according to the need of modular pattern. The relationship is warm and friendly.

The students are free to discuss doubts related to academic matters in the chambers of the faculty members apart. The Department follows a three-tier modular pattern of academic programme namely Certificate, Diploma, Degree Modules. The Department offers twenty five courses at the Certificate level, twenty two at the Diploma level and thirty one at the Degree level. Among them some of the courses are interdisciplinary in nature and offered to other technical branches. The Department has recently revised the course curriculum with due consideration to the need of the modular pattern and emerging and recent developments in the discipline.
