Bioinformatics Centre (DBT-BIF), Dept. of Forestry, NERIST

The Bioinformatics Centre, under Department of Forestry, NERIST has been being established in 2008 with a primary mandate to enhance teaching, learning & research in biology and allied fields through the use of advanced bioinformatics facilities to the biology teachers, scholars and students of this institute in particular and other institutes, schools, colleges in the surrounding area in general. This centre has been developed under the financial support from the Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) programme of Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISNet, http://www.btisnet.gov.in) of Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India with an objective on promotion of Biology Teaching through Bioinformatics (BTBI) in the country.

The Centre will be organizing regular workshops, training, seminars, awareness programmes, etc. on various aspects of bioinformatics and related area from time to time.

Calendar of Trainings /Workshops at Bioinformatics Centre, NERIST during 2009-2010

First (1st) training/ workshop of the centre is scheduled to be held from 26-28th February, 2009 with title theme on “Applications of Computer and Internet in Biology Teaching and Research” (Completed).

Second (2nd) training/ workshop of the centre is scheduled to be held from 6-8th August, 2009 with title theme on “Bioinformatics-Tools, Techniques & Applications” (Postponed in November, 2009)

Third (3rd) training/ workshop of the centre is scheduled to be held from 12-14th November, 2009 with title theme on “Bioinformatics Software-Database Development, Management and Applications”

Fourth (4th) training/ workshop of the centre is scheduled to be held from 4-6th February, 2010 with title theme on “Applications of Bioinformatics in Biological and Biochemical Research”

Fifth (5th) training/ workshop of the centre is scheduled to be held from 1-5th June, 2010 with title theme on “Vacation Training on Bioinformatics for Biology Teachers of School and Colleges”

Sixth (6th) training/ workshop of the centre is scheduled to be held from 7-9th October, 2010 with title theme on “Recent Advances in Bioinformatics I: Protein Structure and Sequence Analysis”

Seventh (7th) training/ workshop of the centre is scheduled to be held from 27-29th December, 2010 with title theme on “Recent Advances in Bioinformatics II: Nucleic Acid Analysis”
