The Department of Civil Engineering came into existence with the inception of the Institute. The department offers a two-year modular pattern of education adopted by the Institute at Base, Diploma and Degree levels respectively. The entry at Base module is after Class X. Each module is terminal in character corresponding to a vocational/occupational level and at the same time those who satisfy the criteria for vertical mobility are allowed to move to the next higher module, leading finally to a degree in technology after six years their after entry at the base level.

PROGRAM INFRASTRUCTURE

At present, student intake for each module is 30 and they are admitted through the NERIST Entrance Examination: NEE-I, NEE-II, and NEE-III.

The courses offered by the department are framed:

• To train and provide skills to the Base Module students in Surveyors and Draftsman trades.
• To impart supervisory and guiding proficiency to the Diploma Module students.
• To provide expertise to Degree students about Real Time Analysis, Innovative Design skill etc. in various areas of Civil Engineering and make them competent to cope up with the present needs of the civilization. Currently, the Department is also offering PG programs leading to M. Tech and Ph. D respectively.

The department has 11 laboratories equipped with the state-of-art equipments. These include: Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Highway Engineering, Material Testing, Field Engineering, Surveying, Computational, Geology and Drafting Laboratory.

Department has 18 highly motivated faculty members with expertise in specialized areas of civil engineering. At present, 3 faculty members have gone to pursue their doctoral programs in different IITs. The Department also has 13 trained members in the technical and non- technical categories.
