The year 1993 marked the split of the Physical Sciences group of the institute into three departments viz., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. As a result the Department of Chemistry came into existence. Since then, it has expanded in terms of manpower, research activities, instrumentation, and laboratory facilities. The faculty members of the department have been very actively participating in the departmental as well as administrative and developmental activities of the institute, and it is second to none so for as its contribution in the overall progress of the institute is concerned.
